Step 1: Open your Zilkee order confirmation email and download the Zilkee Recovery Wizard (available for both Windows and Mac).

Step 2: Install and open the wizard. It walks you through everything, including identifying your drive and, if needed, safely removing it from your old computer.

Step 3: Connect your drive to the matching port on the Zilkee Lost File Recovery Pro, plug the USB cable straight into your computer (no hub or dock), then plug in the power adapter and flip the switch to ON. The light next to the port you used comes on: left for 3.5 inch IDE, middle for 2.5 inch IDE, right for SATA. With power alone and no drive, no light is normal.

Step 4: The wizard scans your drive and shows you the files it finds. You choose what to keep, remove duplicates, and pick which files to recover.

Step 5: Choose a destination folder on your computer, and the wizard saves your recovered files right where you want them.

Zilkee recovers deleted and corrupted files from drives your computer can still detect, including drives that won't boot or won't mount. In the rare case that a drive is physically dead and can't be detected by any computer, no software-based tool can recover it. That requires a specialized data-recovery lab, and if that turns out to be your situation, we'll refund your purchase and point you toward professional recovery options.

Yes, if the drive comes out. Many older MacBooks and iMacs use a removable 2.5 or 3.5 inch SATA drive, and those connect to the converter on any Windows or Mac computer. Most MacBooks from the last decade have storage soldered to the board or use Apple's own connector, and the converter can't connect to those. Not sure which you have? Email us a photo before you order.

Usually, yes. A normal Windows or Mac login password only locks the computer, not the drive. But if the drive itself is encrypted (BitLocker, FileVault, or a drive that asks for its own password or recovery key), the files can't be read without that key, and no recovery tool can get around it.
